This project took advantage of this historic structure's organization, ideal for housing the galleries of the permanent collection. The large programmatic elements, such as conservation, receiving, and storage, are located in a satellite building. The Master Plan attempts to investigate various com-ponents of the 21,500 s.f. building in an effort to establish guidelines for both programmatic and physical performance.

The spatial and organizational relationships of each department are defined graphically to depict idealized blocks of space. These representations and their accompanying narrative will help to direct the general organization of each department and to identify important relationships, adjacen-cies, or performance criteria that should be noted. There are several disciplines critical to the successful planning and execution of museum quality space that are addressed; mechanical & electrical systems, life-safety and security systems, transportation, and general lighting criteria were reviewed.
